Description of the FreshAire™ System

The FreshAire™ system consists of the 1000 series controller, outdoor and in-building environment sensors, variable frequency drives, and building ventilation fans.

The FreshAire™ 1000 Series system works year round by recognizing changes in outdoor conditions, no matter if it is raining, snowing, or hot and sunny. By measuring and compensating for constantly changing outdoor conditions and changing interior loads caused by lights, equipment, and population movement, the ventilation fans will adjust in speed to maximize building comfort and minimize building energy use while maintaining BOCA building code fresh air requirements.

The FreshAire™ system, in combination with building unit ventilators, provides a complete, dedicated variable air flow building comfort system. The FreshAire™ system provides an economizer cycle that effectively reduces building temperatures in heating only buildings during the ‘off’ seasons and reduces cooling loads in buildings that are air conditioned.

Description of the FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller

The FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller is a microprocessor based design that incorporates a simple 5 push button interface and a large 4 line LCD display. This format provides a very simple on-screen menu for system setup, control, and performance readouts of the building ‘s temperature, humidity, pressure, and CO2 level so comfort and efficiency are optimized for each zone within the building. *

The FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller is powered by an internal 110-120 VAC Class II transformer. A built-in 24 VDC power supply provides 0-10 VDC communication with the sensors and variable frequency drives. One outdoor relative humidity sensor and one outdoor temperature sensor are required for each FreshAire™ system. Each in-building zone will require one pressure sensor, one temperature sensor and (optionally) one carbon dioxide sensor. Depending on the complexity and configuration of the facility, each zone may have one, two, or three variable frequency drives connected to matching ventilation fans.

The FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller provides for direct communication with the building’s fire protection system. If an alarm is detected, the FreshAire™ system resets airflow to minimum code requirements. To reactive the FreshAire™ system, the building operator must manually reset the 1000 Series controller to run in either ‘hand’ mode or in the normal ‘automatic’ mode. The ‘hand’ or manual override of the FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller is used to set up the system during commissioning and to run the system in times that fall outside of the normal building occupancy schedule.

The FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller provides for direct communication with the building’s automatic control system. Irregardless of the age, type, or manufacturer, the FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller is able to interface with the building automatic control system for remote monitoring, trending, or set point adjustment. Where interface with the building automatic control system is not practical, the FreshAire™ 1000 Series controller is a stand-alone device complete with it’s own programmable occupancy schedule accessible through the keypad.

* For boiler room or industrial applications, the CO2 sensor may be replaced with a CO sensor.
